Origins

Aequos was founded by a group of renowned scientists, whose research has focused on the biomechanics of human joints, leading to groundbreaking discoveries along the way.

The new biomechanical insights generated the intellectual capital of Heidelberg Joint Systems, a company founded by the scientists in 1994, whose stated mission was to leverage the proprietary knowledge for a new generation of physiological artificial joints. In 2005, Heidelberg Joint Systems was renamed to Aequos Endoprothetik GmbH. Since the founding of the company, more than 70 patents have been registered worldwide. They provide the proprietary basis for innovative designs of artificial joints for seven human joint families.

The first marketable product is the Aequos G1 knee endoprosthesis. It received approval in 2002. The Aequos G1 knee implant has since been clinically tested in various partner centers. Since 2005 the endoprosthesis has been on the market in Germany.

Aequos Endoprothetik GmbH is headquartered in Gräfelfing near Munich , Germany . Sales and marketing are based there.
